For students reducing cannabis use
Salamander is a non-clinical student wellbeing platform that helps students reduce cannabis use through weekly check-ins, healthy activities, peer support, and progress tracking.
The problem
Students often turn to cannabis because of loneliness, boredom, stress, lack of stimulation, or lack of structure.
Quitting isn't just about willpower. The hole that cannabis hid — the loneliness, the boredom, the anxiety — is still there the moment you stop. That's why trying to quit on your own without changing other habits so often fails. Salamander exists to help fill that hole with something real: community, structure, and a place to explore new hobbies.
We started with international students, because moving to a new country, alone, is one of the most powerful triggers there is.
Who it's for
It starts with the part of you that wants things to change. Salamander helps you take the next step.
Whether your goal is quitting completely or just regaining control, Salamander gives you a place to start and people to check in with.
You know you could be living more fully. You just need a nudge, some accountability, and people to do things with.
You are far from home and building a routine from scratch. Salamander helps you find structure, activities, and people to check in with.
How it works
Salamander combines offline activities, progress tracking, and peer support in one platform. Start small, try different activity tracks, build routine, and gradually move from support to independence.
Tell us where you are at. Choose whether you want to reduce or stop. Start with a realistic first plan.
Pick two daily and two weekly habits. Unlock more as you build momentum so you're never overwhelmed.
Attend weekly Reset Circles, study sessions, outdoor activities, creative nights, or social events across six tracks.
Use your dashboard and Discovery Passport to see what helps you most: movement, creativity, focus, or connection.
What you'll do
Simple offline activities that help you get out of the house, meet people, and try something new.
Jogging, bouldering, gym, yoga, cycling, football, basketball... Whatever gets you out of your head.
Woodworking, cooking nights, jam sessions, photography walks... Give your busy mind somewhere to go.
Study sessions, exam prep, co-working at a café, mindfulness hours... Structure for the scattered mind.
Board game nights, book clubs, trivia, karaoke, barbecues... Low-pressure ways to spend time with others.
Language exchange, beginner guitar, mixing, or teaching whatever you know. Give and receive.
Group walks, journaling, goal-setting, weekly check-ins, Sunday talks. A safe space to reflect.
What's inside
New users start with just 2 daily and weekly habits. Complete them consistently and you unlock more. Trying to fix everything at once gets overwhelming. We don't let that happen.
Request an accountability buddy if it feels right for you. Matches are based on your city, university, and interests.
A short weekly reflection where you look at the week honestly and set one realistic goal for the next one. Takes 3 minutes.
Track check-ins, activities attended, habits completed, and new categories tried. The goal is not just stopping — it's discovering what can replace it.
Everyone knows something. Teach a small skill, join someone else's session, or learn something new without pressure.
Links to GPs, university wellbeing offices, therapist directories, and crisis contacts. We know our limits.
